The picture shows the Thorold, at Marston, near Grantham in Lincolnshire.
It was formerly known as the Thorold Arms, and is a great pub to visit.
But this is more than a pub. For sure, you will find a decent range of drinks, and a simple but decent menu. And if you get something from the menu, you will be impressed.
You will be impressed, too, by the tidy refurb this place has had. It is a nice space.
But this is so much more. This is a community hub, comprising a shop, and occasional post office, and the pub, and coffee shop.
Like so many village pubs, this place was doomed. But the local people fought hard, and after predictable set backs they raised the cash to save the place. And they have won. It is utterly brilliant. It is a reason to visit the village, which otherwise might get skipped over.
There are some great local walks, a couple of decent places to camp, and even a couple of B and B rooms right here at the Thorold. We visit many villages like this where there is now no shop, and no pub, and no hub. So a massive win for the local people. And visitors.
I encourage you to pop over to their website, here, to find out more.
We are happy snappers!
