Not all those who wander are lost

Perspective
We love exploring places, mostly on foot, so you can see the nooks. And also the crannies. This way you get to spot lots of gems invisible to you as you hasten by. Slow down. Take it all in.
But there is another thing we very much enjoy doing, and here we did it. The location is the cliff path beyond Spittal and Berwick upon Tweed.
Up there, looking back at the town, you can see the whole settlement, nestling in the gap in the coastal scenery, straddling the River Tweed as it makes contact with the North Sea.
Looking back across the town it all seems distant, and quiet. Down there, all life goes on. People rush, and do their busy things, and shop, and work. They talk. They fix things. Their horizon, for the moment, is defined by those things. Those things seem important. No - because this is both kinder and true, those things ARE important.
But stood back, looking across a thousand important things, but hearing none of them, is a restful place. Nothing there can reach out it's disturbance and remove the calm of the scene. No one there even knows, much less cares, that we are here on the cliff path having this deep and meaningful moment of perspective.
Because that is what it was. Seeing things from a different angle. Seeing things with a different scale next to them.
You may not have the time, right now, to walk a couple of miles up the cliff and look back down on your town. But so often perspective is a massive injection of calm into our world.
That is what we learned on that coast path.
